Back in 1996 Matt Knowles was first introduced to the World Wide Web. Amazed by the amount of information that was freely available, he wanted to give back to this virtual community, and decided that the Internet needed a good list of historic homes that were open to the public.

For over a quarter century, Matt has maintained this list, and in that time the web has changed drastically. Originally, the house museum information was all hand coded in HTML. Beginning in 2015, the entries were gradually converted into a database with custom coding to allow searches and attach photos. In 2022, the directory was once again ported and updated using a WordPress plugin that provides mapping, and better search capabilities.

All ad free! That’s the spirit of Web 1.0!
