Historic House Museums in Arizona

The Muheim Heritage House Museum, a Registered National Historic site, was built by Joseph and Carmelita Muheim beginning in 1898. The first four rooms were completed in 1900. As the family grew, six more rooms were added. The house was completed in 1915. Located at 207 Youngblood Hill, the home is an example of late 19th-century architecture and has been restored to its earlier elegance.

Feel the old wooden floor give slightly and squeak beneath your feet as you enter the oldest, continuously operating trading post on the Navajo Nation. As your eyes adjust to the dim lighting of the "bullpen" you might catch the trader negotiating a deal with a Native American artist for their art. You will experience history first hand at Hubbell Trading Post NHS.

This historic house museum is devoted to the history of the Jerome area, mining, and the Douglas family. The museum features exhibits with historic photographs, artifacts, and minerals in addition to a video presentation and a 3-D model of the town with its underground mines. The Douglas library and upstairs bathroom are furnished as period rooms. An outside exhibit area surrounding the mansion includes mining equipment and interpretive panels. The adjacent “Carriage house” contains a buggy owned by the Douglas’s and “Smokey Joe” a 1929 Ford Model A truck from Jerome.

Historic Heritage Square located inside Heritage & Science Park, is comprised of several beautifully restored turn of the 20th century homes (including the 1895 Rosson House) and buildings located on what was part of the original Phoenix townsite during the late 1800s. Today, the park itself is part of Phoenix’s downtown Copper Square.

Sharlot Hall Museum is named after its founder, Sharlot Mabridth Hall (1870-1943), who became well known as a poet, activist, politician, and Arizona’s first territorial historian. Sharlot Hall was one of the West’s most remarkable women. As early as 1907, Ms. Hall saw the need to save Arizona's history and planned to develop a museum. She began to collect both Native American and pioneer material. In 1927, she began restoring the first Territorial Governor’s residence and offices and moved her extensive collection of artifacts and documents opening it as a museum in 1928

Frank Lloyd Wright began building this desert masterpiece in 1937 as his personal winter home, studio, and architectural campus. Located on the beautiful Sonoran desert in the foothills of the McDowell Mountains in northeast Scottsdale, the site offers a broad range of guided public tours. Visitors experience firsthand Wright’s brilliant ability to integrate indoor and outdoor spaces.

The historic adobe Sosa-Carrillo-Fremont House was built in the 1870s.

The Sanguinetti House Museum, located in an 1870s adobe home, focuses on the history of the Lower Colorado River from the 1540s to the present.
